At first I was reluctant to play with lighting effects in Photoshop during each page's final phase of creation as it would defy the traditional tone-shading method of manga creation. Though I have become far more liberal with it now, I still (mostly) keep a policy of using a tone shading as a base before going crazy with the effects.

Otherwise, the first and foremost rule is just to make it look good.
