Barell is the grandfather of Roll Casquet. Though now retired as a Digouter, Barell continues his search for the Great Legacy as the main advisor of the Casquet Family, providing Rock and Roll with his vast knowledge from many years of experience.

Before he became better known as the professor of Ancient and Holon Technology, he was a former colonel of the Digouters Guild with a reputation for having vast strength during digouts which has earned him the nicknames "Barell The Invincible" and "The Living Legend".

Barell is a headstrong man who has accumulated decades of experience and knowledge during his active years as both a Digouter and Researcher in Ancient Technology. Though this has contributed to giving him a reputation of being rather arrogant and overbearing, Barell is actually a calm and wise man who is more than willing to share his knowledge with others (at least most of the time). He is also very perceptive, and was able to tell that his former assistant Mayor Amelia that she was hiding crucial information from him when asking about the secrets of Kattelox Island.

Barell is particularly caring for his remaining family members: his granddaughter Roll, and his foster grandchild Rock. Having lost his daughter and son-in-law many years ago, Barell is very protective of his only remaining blood relative.

Not letting his age slow him down, Barell remains energetic and persistent in keeping an active role in the family's adventures.

Barell is most known for his extensive knowledge and experience regarding the ancient ruins and technologies; both topics which remained a mystery among most social circles. His contributions include the publication of various study papers and theories regarding these ancient remains, and how it may have some relation with the origins of Terra and its people.

In addition to the above, he also has a great amount of understanding of scientific and practical subjects including mechanical engineering, sociology, and biology (to a lesser extent than the other examples).

Barell is occasionally shown walking around wth cane, which at first gives the impression that old age has caught up to him. As it turns out, the cane weighs a misleading 30kg (roughly 66 pounds) and is part of a facade used by Barell to trick potential threats into letting their guard down. Extremely strong both during his youth and at old age, he is also shown to know martial arts, demonstrated when he quickly disarmed Tron with a single blow without hurting her but instead letting her off with a warning.

• Barell is shown to know martial arts, namely Ansatsuken from Street Fighter. In additon to being shown performing the Shoryuken to disarm Tron, he shows off a fighting pose which resembles Gouki/Akuma's and has victory poses used by Ken Masters. This is also played on in some of his quotes.
